Three weeks beyond Brexit. HotelsCombined comments on the impact of results on the UK travel landscape

Dimitri Konovalovas, Country Manager (UK & Ireland) of the world’s leading global hotel price comparison website and mobile app, HotelsCombined, said: “Stoic Brits remain determined to plan their summer holiday and we saw an increase of 13% in searches for UK accommodation by UK users in the three weeks since the Brexit result was announced.

Uncertainty around the Pound does appear to have convinced many that it's safer to stay at home, at least for now.

"As expected, recent incidents in Turkey have had a profound impact, with hotel bookings down 27% in the past month. This may be one reason why searches and bookings remain steady for the usual Eurozone hotspots despite the post-Brexit uncertainty. The only exception to this is Spain, where confidence appears to be wavering with a 5% decrease in bookings.

"While the drop of the Pound against the US Dollar has had an impact - the USA has seen a reduction in bookings of 19%, Canadian Dollar bookings are up 45%, showing that an appetite for travel remains where there is value to be had. Savvy UK holidaymakers appear to also have confidence in other long haul destinations including Thailand, for which bookings are up 43%."
