The Islands of Tahiti's sailing credentials set the scene for an exciting eventTahiti Tourisme has announced its sponsorship of the prestigious Legal Cup sailing regatta, taking place on 13th-15th May 2016.
The two day annual event is held in Cowes and has established itself as one of the largest regattas in the country and a key networking event for the legal profession. Five teams have already signed up to compete for the highly coveted trophy.
The Islands of Tahiti holds excellent sailing credentials and is a destination to be discovered for the voyage of a lifetime. The backdrop of outstanding natural beauty and ideal sailing conditions combine to create unforgettable experiences.
Covering an area of over four million square kilometres and spread over five large archipelagos, there is plenty of wide open space and incomparable natural beauty for any sailor to explore. By day, float through the turquoise waters, home to an abundance of sea life and by night relax in a safe sheltered mooring and admire the night sky, dominated by the southern hemispheres constellations which were once essential references for Polynesian navigators.
For those new to sailing, Taha’a Island is a favourite as it is protected from the ocean swells by a fringing coral reef, providing an ideal location to sail on flat waters without leaving the lagoon. Taha’a also provides the perfect spot to admire panoramic views of Bora Bora or Huahine. The close proximity of these islands allow visitors to safely discover the wonders of The Islands of Tahiti from the perspective of the water, and for visitors feeling more inquisitive, the opportunity to drop an anchor and explore one of the black pearl farms or vanilla plantations. For the more experienced sailor visiting The Islands of Tahiti, inter-island crossings are more challenging than sailing within the lagoons.
Many sailing events are held in the destination each year, including The Tahiti Pearl Regatta, which is held in May. The race between Raiatea, Taha’a and Bora Bora combining ocean courses with lagoon competitions is open to all types of sailboats from all nationalities. Other events being welcomed to The Islands of Tahiti in 2016 include the World ARC round-the-world adventure (April), Tahiti Moorea Sailing Rendezvous (24-26 June 2016) and the Tahiti Race Transpac (mid-June), a race linking California and Tahiti.
