EVCOM Board appoints new Directors to fully represent the membership

Following its most recent board meeting EVCOM has announced the appointment of two new Board directors along with confirming the Vice Chair who will succeed Steve Garvey as Chairman after the AGM in June 2016.
EVCOM Vice Chair Andrew Smith works at the forefront of screen content for the corporate sector with his company A-Vision. He has been on the board of IVCA and now EVCOM for a total of 7 years and welcomes the changes the organisation has made.

Andrew said: “Bringing film and live events together are two parts of the Holy Trinity of the communications and marketing mix. I plan to connect with more clients and digital companies to bring them into the fold as it is here that the whole communication offering can be discussed and also where business between member companies can truly grow. EVCOM should not just be about representing members and helping them win awards, but also about introducing opportunities to active member companies.”

The Board also agreed Steve Garvey would continue in his current role as Executive Chairman until the next AGM.

The Board has co-opted Sam Wilson from ECO Events and Steve Garratt from the Giggle Group.

Sam Wilson is a strong advocate of CSR and provides monthly blogs and items for the EVCOM newsletter spearheading new CSR related initiatives.  Sam was a member of Eventia for 6 years before the merger with IVCA to become EVCOM and has worked behind the scenes during this time to support members to achieve their sustainability goals.

Sam is Managing Director of EcoEvents (specialising in event sustainability and ISO 20121) and Event ISO (specialising in integrated ISO adoption and Certification). She teaches business and event sustainability at a number of UK Universities and recently travelled to Beijing to fly the flag for EVCOM and help businesses in China take action on reducing their environmental impacts. Sam is passionate about support companies in the events and communications sector to become sustainable and drive their business into the future.

Steve Garratt rejoins the Board to continue driving the membership committee with new initiatives for getting members together to show them how to maximize the value of their membership.   Steve trained as a theatre director and it was whilst working with large groups of actors that he understood the power of emotional engagement. When he worked on corporate films, live events and conferences he realised that 90% of the audience was disconnected from the message because they weren't emotionally engaged. So he added theatre, anticipation and excitement into his events, short films and animations.

Giggle Group uses these principles to create short impactful communication and marketing films that can drive real change in an organization, measured by analytics before and after campaigns.

Finally Brian Kirsch has decided it’s time to step down from the EVCOM Board as he heads into well-earned retirement. The Board would like to thank him for his many years of support and hard work for the ITMA, Eventia and EVCOM. He has tirelessly represented and promoted our industry through countless meetings, policy documents and lobbying sessions. His eye for detail has held ministers to account and, as an association director, he has done the same to our CEOs and chairmen.  We wish him well in his new-found life of leisure.

These changes provide an even balance of representation from all EVCOM’s membership groups. The line-up is as follows:
  Steve Garvey, Executive Chairman
Dale Parmenter, drp - Immediate Past Chairman
Andrew Smith, A-Vision - Vice Chair
Rachel Ley, RLC Productions
Heather Robinson, Heather Robinson Live Communication
Andrew Winterburn, Ashfield Healthcare
Nick Terry, Top Banana
Sam Wilson, EcoEvents
Richard Cook, World Television
Sara Cooper, Plastic Pictures
Steve Salam, Future & Co
Steve Garratt, Giggle Group
Richard Heap, Baker Tilly
Cary Rueda, Petrofac
Richard McHardy, The McHardy Collective
Kylie Mather, Travlaw
Angela Law, Everysense

Steve Garvey commented: “The EVCOM Board represents the live communication and corporate film industry through its wide and deep experience of every aspect of our industry. I’m delighted we’ve added Sam and Steve as directors and look forward to their contribution to our activities. EVCOM has a busy pipeline of events and is adding members, especially corporate clients who want to engage more with other industry players. We’ve made significant progress over the last three months and will continue to create more opportunities for our members to be more successful in 2016.”
