New APPG for events to launch today

James Heappey MP
The new All Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) meets in Parliament for the first time today, under the Chairmanship of James Heappey, Member of Parliament for Wells.
The group of parliamentarians, made up of members of all parties from both Houses of Parliament, meet as part of their Annual General Meeting, which formally establishes the group as an official APPG in Parliament.

As part of the AGM, the APPG will hear representation from various parts of the events sector, including Chris Skeith from the AEO and Simon Hughes from EVCOM.

The APPG for Events, previously under the stewardship of Nick de Bois, has been credited with the events industry establishing far stronger links across both Parliament and Government, as part of the Britain for Events campaign.

The APPG AGM is followed by the annual parliamentary dinner tomorrow evening (Tuesday) where senior members of the events sector are due to meet parliamentarians and senior government officials to discuss issues of interest as the sector seeks to grow from its existing £42.3 billion value in 2015 to £48 billion by 2020.
