drp tech team rickshaw race
As part of drp ’s commitment to deliver 35 CSR projects during their 35th anniversary year, 12 of the technical services team completed the gruelling challenge of cycling 130 miles from drp’s Covent Garden office to the drp midlands facilities 212 on Friday 22nd May to raise money for industry charity ‘Meeting Industry Meeting Needs’.

The team suffered gear failure on Wednesday morning which caused the rickshaw rally to temporarily be put on hold whilst they scoured the UK to find the spare part and complete the challenge two days later than planned. Meeting Industry Meeting Needs (MIMN) is a charity founded by leading figures in the UK conference and events industry and brings together venues, agencies and suppliers to raise funds and change lives, so far drp have raised nearly £3,000 from £5,000 target and that figure is still climbing.

The drpteam used nothing but pedal power for 130 miles on a refurbished rickshaw through the Cotswolds and beyond and after a fantastic start disaster struck on Wednesday morning in the form of a gear malfunction. The team reluctantly made the decision to put the rally on hold and began searching the UK for the spare part, which meant driving to SLS cycles in Somerset to pick up the part and repairing the rickshaw ready to start the second and final leg in the early hours of Friday morning, all the while proving the companies mantra of ‘anything’s possible’.

Dale Parmenter drp group CEO spoke of the temporary setback on Thursday “The team worked tirelessly trying to push on but the same issue kept repeating itself, so they reluctantly made the decision to stop, source the part and work through the night if necessary”

The drpteam once again made great time on Friday and despite the hilly terrain crossed the finish line ahead of schedule at the drp’s studios in Hartlebury at 1pm, where they were welcomed with a champagne reception and cheers from their fellow colleagues.

Shonali Rodrigues, Director of Development at MIMN spoke of the team’s efforts “Congratulations to the drp team for completing the Rally! We're delighted that the amount of money raised for MIMN can support BuildIt International to change the lives of the Katuba community.”
