HRH The Princess Royal
On Monday 20th April, YSS Worcestershire Young Carers held their annual conference at drp’s studio in Hartlebury. The day-long conference has been organised by YSS Worcestershire Young Carers themselves, with support from the communications agency, drp. Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, attended the conference as patron of YSS and addressed the delegates keen to learn how best to support young people who regularly care for a family member who is physically or mentally ill, disabled or who misuses substances.

The event also launched the county’s new, Young Carers in Schools programme. Since 2001 YSS has provided individual support to approximately 20,000 people over this time across West Mercia, whilst maintaining a workforce of 100 volunteers. The event is one of drp’s 35 CSR projects, being undertaken as part of the agency’s 35th Anniversary celebrations.

The YSS Worcestershire Young Carers have worked closely with drpteam members from across the business, learning the intricacies of how to deliver an event. On the day of the conference, they stepped into the roles they had been studying and managed the conference logistics flawlessly. Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal arrived at the event during the morning sessions and met key team members from YSS, including the young careers who had made the whole thing possible. She then addressed the crowd, imparting wisdom about the role of young carers, their challenges and how everyone can recognise and support the work they do in difficult circumstances.

Mark Marshall a younger carer who looks after his mother since the passing of his father 8 years ago, talked about the YSS conference and how the charity has helped and supported him, “ Quote”

Dale Parmenter, drp CEO, talked about the conference and the decision to deliver the CSR project, “Each year drp holds a Christmas party for the drp team’s own children. This year we ran the event twice, once for our team and once for the YSS Worcestershire Young Carers. We were blown away by the incredible sacrifices these young carers have had to make and the amazing support provided to them by YSS. We had to find a way to support them further and so this conference, where we’ve worked the careers themselves in creating it, has been our pleasure to deliver. Each carer delivering the event has been amazing and we were all inspired by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal’s insightful words.”
