Worthington Group PLC acquire portfolio of events

Event industry veterans Simon Burton and Nick James have sold their portfolio of events and publications to Worthington Media Portfolio, a subsidiary of Worthington Group PLC.
The portfolio comprises: Digital Marketing Show, Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Britain Means Business and Essential Cyclist.

Worthington Group Plc is a British Investment Company that celebrates its 60th year on the London Stock Exchange this year. The Company has four areas of investment focus: property, litigation claims, emerging markets and new economy. Worthington is forming Worthington Media Portfolio Ltd to hold these investments and plans further media acquisitions as the group rapidly expands its portfolio.

Doug Ware CEO, of Worthington Group plc said: “Simon and Nick have put together a talented team that has the experience to grow the media business quickly and profitably. Additionally it’s a huge advantage for Worthington to have such a depth of digital marketing skill and knowledge within the group. Digital Media has been one of the fastest growing sectors throughout the recession and is set to grow rapidly with the improving economic climate.”

Commenting on the deal Burton said, “This is a hugely exciting deal for us. We believe passionately in communities. We believe even more passionately in the power of face to face plus digital to unlock those communities. Worthington share our vision and are committed to funding us to acquire media businesses that are underperforming because of their failure to combine live plus digital.

Burton and James will continue to be actively involved in the business.
