Delegates and speakers collaborate at Summer EVCOM

Summer EVCOM succeeded in bringing the events and visual community together for the very first time by delivering many compelling sessions.  The day was opened by Pauline Ploquin, chief operating officer of US-based agency Struck, who flew in from Salt Lake City, Utah to share her thoughts on the ‘Art of Collaboration’ where she drew on her experiences of being involved in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games creative team.

Another highlight was keynote speaker Bobi Carley, commercial Director of Disneymedia+ UK & Ireland, who revealed how her 25-strong team integrate ad sales, promotions and marketing solutions teams and collaborate with aligned brands such as Sky, British Airways and Iceland to share Disney’s content.  

Hosted by Olympia London, Summer EVCOM and EVCOM Fest saw 200 delegates, speakers and sponsors participate in a clever mix of plenary and breakout that gave delegates a choice of three content strands: Content & Channels, Technology & Innovation and Business & Ideas Generation. Sessions included: ‘How does client and agency collaboration maximise channel and content success across comms, live and digital delivery’ with Sharon Bennett and Olivia Lory-Kay from CTN Communications who used recent case studies to highlight very unique problems and left the audience with the following words of wisdom: ‘Don’t be afraid to co-create with clients.  Be passionate, energetic and really care!’  

A Story a Day by Ezri Carlebach showed delegates that telling stories is essential for good business. - Encouraging the audience to think of each business, project or company as having a story to tell, he equipped his listeners with the creative tools to create stronger content.  

Rounding off the day was Dean Van Leeuwen, founder of Tomorrow Today who gave a  humour-filled presentation looking how a generation gap influences attitudes and behaviours and how by understanding the impact of different generational value systems, inside and outside your organisation, you can improve customer relationships, the productivity and interactions of your teams, and gain insights that will ensure you get the most out of the people you interact with every day.  

Marco Forgione, EVCOM CEO, said: “Olympia London provided a spectacular venue and backdrop for a day of superb content and inspiration with vibrant debate, discussion and conversation throughout the day.  I was delighted to see a broad range of our industry and membership participating and yesterday provided a superb springboard for next year and launch-pad for Summer EVCOM 2015 which will be held at the ACC, Liverpool 1st-3rd July.

The day concluded with EVCOM Fest, which provided a mix of entertainment, comedy, magic, food and drink, and the chance for delegates to put all the tips on collaboration they’d learnt during the day into practice!
