EVCOM welcomes Government backing for business exemption from package travel directive

Brian Kirsch, Chairman of EVCOM Regulation Committee
Brian Kirsch, Chairman of EVCOM Regulation Committee has welcomed the Government Response to the EU Commission Call for Evidence published on 5th September. The consultation concluded last November.

Alongside 26 other trade associations and travel trade interests, EVCOM reaffirmed its long held position that transactions between event management companies and large corporate clients should not fall under the Regulations which have always been primarily concerned with consumer protection. The Government consultation and response addresses a wide range of issues including how a “package” should be defined and financial protection.

Commenting on the paper, Brian Kirsch, Chairman of EVCOM Regulation Committee said: “This is encouraging news for the events sector – now we need the Government to persuade other member states of the merit of our case. Whilst there are still issues here for event management companies, if we can achieve our long term goal of exempting big client contracts, most of these problems will go too”.
