Off to Work announces FREE skills training workshops for all to champion event and hospitality industry careers

Off to Work Training Academy class
For the fifth year, Off to Work Training Academy is championing people and service excellence in hospitality and events with FREE training workshops at Event School 2014 (#EventSchool14).
Running for two days, on 8th and 9th April 2014 at London Irish Centre in Camden, this annual event is especially designed to provide an opportunity for events and hospitality professionals and those aspiring to have careers in the industry to learn new skills through engaging, interactive workshops, hosted by talented Off to Work (OTW) Training Academy tutors and industry experts.

Day one workshops follow a ‘service skills’ theme, including barista training, wine knowledge and classic cocktail mixology. There is also an opportunity to perfect niche, sought-after skills in Livery Hall service etiquette and event rituals, as well as a chance to learn more about the role and responsibilities of the modern day butler.

Day two workshops invite you to ‘fulfil your personal potential’ with a morning mentoring clinic featuring industry luminaries. This is followed by a workshop in dynamic communication skills led by compelling public speaker and The Apprentice finalist Miriam Staley. Then you can learn the art of ‘selling your social self’, a session sharing techniques for ensuring your personal ‘brand’ is presented professionally and creatively both on your CV and across multiple platforms like LinkedIn. Presented by recruitment expert Conrad Brunton, it’s an ideal workshop for students and for junior to mid-level staff keen to their careers to the next level.

Event School 2014 workshops range from two to four hours in duration and are an ideal way for companies and individuals to save £100s in training fees. As a premium CIEH accredited training centre, OTW Training Academy runs accredited courses in partnership with awarding bodies the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, BIIAB, Royal Institute of Public Health and Health and Safety Executive. It also runs full-day vocational training courses in all aspects of event management.

“Off to Work is committed to promoting careers and professionalism in a sector that excites us every day. We’ve provided staff to 5,000 events in the last 12 months, and we’re told time and time again that we seem ‘to breed’ exceptional personalities and high calibre skills across our workforce. Event School is an extension of that dedication to skills training and we are delighted to offer anyone in the events industry the opportunity to learn new skills or refresh existing ones in our two-day workshop series. Come and enjoy condensed versions of several of our popular, full-day vocational courses and leave with practical skills you can implement immediately in your daily roles,” says Philip Atkins, managing director of Off to Work.

New for 2014, the ‘Casting Booth’ is a special group interviewing initiative aimed at university and college students aged 18 or above who would like to join the Off to Work team and work at some of the UK’s most exciting and high profile music, sporting and cultural events, at iconic UK venues and with leading brands and clients.

Abbie Pullman, Off to Work’s recruitment training manager, says: “Finding new talent that is the right fit for our clients is one of the most challenging but exciting parts of our job. We make it our business to ‘enable amazing experiences’ for our clients and their customers, so every member of our permanent and casual staff plays a critical role in meeting and exceeding expectations of service excellence. We want ambitious, confident, intelligent students and individuals with genuine passion for hospitality to submit their CVs for the opportunity to come and join us in our Casting Booth at Event School. The career and networking prospects with Off to Work are exceptional for hard-working team players and we guarantee you’ll have great fun along the way!”
