UK universities’ Asian expansion boosts academic travel at Ian Allan Travel

British universities expanding their operations to Asia, have led to a significant increase in academic travel bookings to the continent.
Shepperton-based TMC, Ian Allan Travel, has reported a year-on-year 25 per cent increase in academic travel bookings, predominantly to China, Singapore and Malaysia on behalf of a number of the UK’s most prestigious universities.

Engineering, construction, medical, and student recruitment account for the main sectors requiring travel bookings.

Pat O’Neill, managing director at Ian Allan Travel, commented:  “There are two factors affecting growth in this market, firstly the desire for UK universities to expand their brands and operations within the growing Asian market, and secondly, the increasing need for cost efficiencies in booking travel arrangements.”

“Many universities now have stricter travel policies to avoid price-hiked, last minute and poorly researched bookings.  Having a specialist TMC has demonstrated overall savings through the structures and technology set in place to minimise exposure to time and money wastage.”
