Tourism leaders’ bid to entice visitors

Blackpool’s business tourism leaders are using “speed dating” and targeting the Irish travel market to entice more visitors to the resort.
Blackpool maintains its position as the UK’s most popular seaside resort but in an increasingly competitive market the town’s tourism team, VisitBlackpool, is working to continually spread the word about what it can offer to both the business and leisure tourist.

Over the next week representatives will travel to Dublin to take part in the Holiday World Show as well as heading to London for a business “speed dating” event.

The Dublin event is key to enhancing relationships with Irish travel operators to encourage holidaymakers to come to Blackpool, while the “speed dating” will see VisitBlackpool’s Business Tourism team urging organisers of conferences and association gatherings to bring their members to the resort.

Specialist conference and event magazine myvenues has organised the networking showcase which will see around 50 buyers from London-based agencies questioning key venues and destinations from across the UK and Blackpool is one of only 33 exhibitors to be taking part in the key event.

Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, said: “It is essential that we take part in networking events to ensure as many people as possible are made aware of just how great Blackpool is.

“The VisitBlackpool team is continually working to sell the resort to the leisure and business visitor and it is vital that we continue to do this.

“Millions of leisure and business visitors already enjoy all that Blackpool has to offer each year but we need to build on this and ensure as many people as possible know what is happening in the resort and how much it has to offer.

“We can never rest on our laurels and must strive to continually increase the number of people using Blackpool for business and pleasure.”
