Jim Cumbes is the new demolition man!
Jim Cumbes, former player at Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) and since 1998 Chief Executive at the club, has demolished the wicket of many a batsman during his career but his recent action at the famous Old Trafford cricket ground saw him involved in a different kind of demolition. The team at The Point, LCCC’s conference and events venue, thought it only fitting that as CEO he should attend the demolition of the club’s pavilion, which when re-built will provide additional break-out rooms to further enhance the facilities already provided by The Point.
Jim Cumbes said: “The re-development taking place is remarkable, once complete the ground is going to look spectacular. This is a famous sporting venue and the ground improvements can only be good for the club and the local area.”
Jim adds: “Last season we won the county championship for the first time in 77 years and next year we welcome the Ashes test match back to Old Trafford. The future for the club is exciting both on and off the pitch.
When completed, the newly built pavilion will be able to cater for up to 700 guests utilising the 8 suites and 9 executive boxes.
Work by Morgan-Sindall on the re-development of Old Trafford is moving forward at a rapid rate, with the installation of the first seats on the club’s new grandstands.
Jim Morgan, area director for Morgan Sindall, says: “The refurbishment of the old Lancashire County Cricket Club pavilion is a key milestone in the development of the new cricket ground. We are delighted to have won the contract to refurbish the pavilion and to be a part of the rejuvenation of such an iconic sporting venue.”
The first phases of the development will be complete by summer 2012, this includes the new grandstands and media centre with the pavilion being completed early summer 2013, prior to the Ashes test match.
