UK Meetings Industry Flashmob a First?

The Conference and Hospitality Show, the biggest Meetings Industry Exhibition outside of London, ended on a high last week as Organisers, Exhibitors and staff from the host venue Leeds United Football Club took to the floor in what is believed to be the UK’s first Meetings Industry “Flashmob”!

The entertainment for “Hospitality Hour” which is traditionally at the end of the day is always a closely guarded secret, but this year visitors’ to the Show watched in amazement as exhibitors left their stand to sing and dance in the aisles.

Show Organiser, Emma Cartmell explained: “We always keep the last hour of the show as Hospitality Hour and this year we thought we would get as many exhibitors involved in the entertainment as possible. The exhibitors were great and really got into the swing of things, we had even had secret rehearsals!”

Exhibitors, including Sales Staff from Leeds United Football Club, Radisson Blu, Conference Leeds and Chilled Events took to the floor along with the Organisers and entertained visitors with carefully choreographed singing and dancing routines.

Now in its 3rd year, the show has doubled in size since its inception and this year attracted more pre-registered visitors than ever before. The Show which took place Thursday 26th April attracted over 400 Meeting and Event Planners from across the UK including high profile agencies such as Universal World Events, W & O Events, Expotel and Travel Leads. There were over 100 VIP buyers to the Show and Emma Cartmell has expressed a desire to grow this number for 2013 as the programme proved so popular.

Other highlights of the show included a culinary demonstration and question and answer session by chef James Martin, key note breakfast address by James Beresford, Chief Executive of Meet England and a presentation from Samme Allen, UK President of Meeting Planners International.

Exhibitor, Moira Unwin Business Tourism Manager for Scotland said: “As first time exhibitors at the Conference and Hospitality Show we were extremely pleased both with the quantity and quality of buyers who came to our stand. Our key business objectives for attending were to meet our existing clients as well as widen our network of new contacts, and the show certainly ticked the boxes for both. We will be back in 2013!”
