The SEA LIFE London Aquarium to become a pop-up art gallery

For one night only, the SEA LIFE London Aquarium is to become a pop-up art gallery exhibiting the sensational works of Roy Peterson. The exhibition will support Stonewall, who work for the equality and justice of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals, as Peterson will generously donate a portion of all proceeds from the sale of his works to the organisation.

A first for the SEA LIFE London Aquarium, the pop-up gallery will open on Tuesday 15th May from 6.30pm- 8.30pm. Guests will walk through the recently refurbished Shark Walk and into the Pacific Wreck for reception drinks and canapés, before being led to the Atlantic Cove to view Peterson’s latest works which will be displayed on easels.

Born in Kinston, North Carolina, Peterson developed his early interest in structural art forms by working with ceramics, sculpture and painting. His artistic talent was acknowledged when he was awarded a distinction for his ceramic work at a major Florida arts festival. His keen sense of form and colour was instantly employed in the Street of Dreams project, designing and painting extravagant murals in the multi-million dollar homes of the rich and famous.

Peterson’s paintings though full of contradictions; still begin with those early representational ideas. During this process his work becomes an amalgamation of spontaneous and reactive gestures as he adds and removes certain elements to focus the viewer’s eye and emotions.
Peterson challenges convention by opting not to paint on an upright canvas, but preferring a flat surface. His work has been shown at the Royal Academy and he is well known for promoting art projects in his neighbourhood of Crystal Palace in London.

The pop-up exhibition will see guests enjoy canapés, served on platters wrapped in copies of Peterson’s paintings, including seared tuna with aubergine salsa and spring onion and chilli mix, beef Wellington with béarnaise sauce and asparagus with hollandaise sauce created by caterer Dish. Bowl food including Thai chicken curry, squash and pumpkin seed salad with caramelised red onion and dolcelata and mini salad of smoked salmon and prawns will be served later in the evening with chocolate brownies to finish.
