Venue IT gets Goodwood racingVenue IT, the permanent infrastructure division of Etherlive, has installed a new communications infrastructure across the entire Goodwood Estate.
The IT network at Lord March’s West Sussex estate covers over 30 locations, including the Goodwood Hotel, Goodwood House, as well as the world-renowned motor circuit and racecourse.
Goodwood will now be able to provide a public Wi-Fi network for the first time, allowing greater scope for social media activity across corporate and consumer events, including an iPhone app exclusively used by race goers.
The new technology will enable Goodwood to use Wi-Fi chip & pin terminals for transactions, which Venue IT launched in 2011 in response to event organisers’ complaints in relation to the poor performance of chip & pin machines which rely on GPRS networks.
The core infrastructure upgrades has enabled The Goodwood Estate to improve functionality for customers and staff at a number of areas.
Pay gates around the Goodwood racecourse will now be linked to the new network, ensuring that every element of the ticketing process will now be accountable and easily managed.
The 91 room Goodwood hotel, based at the heart of the Estate which offers a range of rooms from country house-style classic to newly refurbished and contemporary suites will now enjoy the latest generation building wide voucher based Wi-Fi network. The network is centrally controlled and includes features such as bandwidth management and per user login control.
The racecourse now benefits from a significant scalable wireless mesh network over the grandstands and public areas including the Richmond and Gordon enclosures which can quickly be adapted to an events requirement by adding access points as required. The network can operate multiple wireless networks and will typically be segmented between a fully supported premium network for exhibitors and sponsors, a network for internal staff to connect across the site and a network for press reporting on live events. The site is connected using a number of dedicated redundant point to point links which support the business and on-going events.
The entire network will be fully monitored by Etherlive and partner CMS who is responsible for the day to day support of the network. Etherlive and CMS work together to maintain the stability and performance of the infrastructure.
Venue ITs widening brief at Goodwood, where it has been appointed since 2006, comes after securing a contract to provide connectivity for other venues including The Cumberland Hotel, Lincolnshire Events Centre and The Malvern Showground.
Ann Stupple IT Director at Goodwood Estate said: “Venue IT has been selected as ongoing partner due its technical expertise and experience working with other large venues. They have taken the lead in maximising the benefits a comprehensive Wi-Fi network can bring across the Estate, which ultimately we expect to impact on the bottom line.”
Mike Lang, Account Director with Venue IT said: “We are delighted to further our relationship with the Goodwood Estate, where we saw great potential to streamline operations across the site through the new network. Not only will the project enhance Goodwood’s internal communications, it will also transform transactions and ticketing, and open up many more social media opportunities for organisers.”
