The Oysters Summer Party lived up to its promises

There were two throngs outside the Royal Exchange alongside The Bank of England on Thursday evening, July 7th. One was the queue of invited guests waiting to sign in; the other was the enthralled passers-by attracted by some of the entertainers The Oysters had booked for the event.
Once again The Oysters put on a party that was a remarkable mix of business networking and sheer fun.
If (shame!) you don’t already know The Oysters, they comprise 23 National Tourist Offices who are keen to promote their countries as MICE destinations. Led (astray) by Sarah Mathews of the Belgium Convention Bureau for Flanders & Brussels, they each contribute something special to the event and the result is organised chaos (rather than chaotic organisation).

Well over 300 guests rubbed shoulders in the main hall of the magnificent Royal Exchange and there they were greeted with trays of dates from Oman and Dubai, drank Belgian beer from Wallonia, ate Swiss chocolate, dallied with a near naked Swede and somehow managed to hold a glass of champagne with one hand whilst manoeuvring real oysters from their shells with the other.

And, of course, they talked with each other, often about business.

Then there were quieter interludes for those who chose to have their fortunes told or their tired muscles massaged Sarah sums up by saying: ‘I’m sure that the guests became well aware that UK planners should use The Oysters as their first point of call when planning their events’.

It’s never too early in the year for Christmas presents and so, as guests left the party, they were only too pleased to accept a bright red bag of gifts from Santa Claus, who had interrupted his summer sleep to fly down from Finland.

Who are The Oysters? Just click here or on The Oysters at the top of the ITCM Home Page and you will find them. They are always there, ready to be of service.

And wait for the chance to book into next year’s party, scheduled for 5th July 2012.
