Escape the January blues at AlmaLusa Baixa/Chiado, Lisbon

Lisbon cityscape

Winter dinner bed and breakfast package offers a true taste of Lisbon

Escape the UK winter with a relaxing break and warm welcome at AlmaLusa in the heart of Lisbon.   A cosy and intimate boutique hotel featuring 28 rooms, among them 12 chic suites, AlmaLusa Baixa/Chiado is a contemporary heaven in the city centre. Set in the historic Praça do Município where Lisbon’s Royal Palace once stood and the plans for Portugal’s maritime exploration were drawn up in the 15th Century, the stylish hotel is perfectly positioned for visitors wanting to enjoy a city break in style.

AlmaLusa Baixa/Chiado could hardly be better located for the quarter’s many stylish independent boutiques, art galleries and cafes, offering plenty of opportunities for browsing and shopping.  The hotel is just a stone’s throw from the Tagus River, a superb spot for a morning jog or a sundown stroll.  The cultural attractions such as Castelo de São Jorge and the Sé de Lisboa, as well as the atmosphere-laden fado bars of Alfama, are just a short stroll away. Buses, tram, taxis, and city bikes are all easily accessible from the hotel too.

The hotel’s winter break package includes a three course dinner in the hotel’s Delfina restaurant, a contemporary Portuguese eatery showcasing regional Portuguese specialities presented in slick, fuss free style.   The classic regional dishes are pure comfort food and make for perfect winter eating.  Starters and tapas include Galega style stewed octopus with paprika; senhorinha, a liver terrine with dried figs and port wine; or classic pimentos de padron.  Main courses include cabbage soup with black pork sausage acorda de tomate, a deliciously rustic tomato and green asparagus bread stew topped with a fried egg.    Pudding features crème brûlée - ‘the Portuguese way’, of course - and a panna cotta with roasted pumpkin.  Portuguese wines feature a daily special and the menu also offers a selection of salads, burgers and bistro classics.

AlmaLusa prides itself on its superbly efficient concierge service and can arrange a variety of tours and day trips (starting at 25€ per person) that cover everything from the history of the city’s rebirth after the 1755 earthquake to the royal Palace of Pena in nearby Sintra.

The winter package includes:  3 nights’ accommodation with daily buffet breakfast, one a la carte three course dinner at Delfina (drinks excluded), a black chocolate flowerless cake on arrival, return airport transfers and entrance to the newly launched Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT)

Valid from 4 January to 9 March, for stays from Sunday to Thursday
Prices start at 525€ per room for a three night Winter Package in a Standard Room, offering a saving of approximately 100€  br/> All rooms include free Wi-Fi and water and coffee station
