In focus: 25 years since the Fall of the Wall / Expanding conference capacitiese

It's a premiere for Berlin at this year's IMEX America in Las Vegas, the German capital is presenting itself for the first time with its own stand. From 14–16 October, the visitBerlin Berlin Convention Office welcomes visitors and hosted buyers to the Berlin Lounge (Booth 2524) to inform them about Berlin as a destination for meetings and conventions. The booth's focus will be the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

"The Berlin Lounge allows us to present the city and its partners in a more targeted manner. Just before we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall, we are giving our customers a first-hand look at how much Berlin has changed in recent years. Visitors experience today's Berlin as a dynamic metropolis that is also a premier convention destination," says Heike Mahmoud, Director Conventions of the visitBerlin Berlin Convention Office.

A quarter century after the Fall of the Wall, Berlin has become a popular destination for meetings and conventions around the globe. The latest statistics* demonstrate this: in the first half of 2014, approximately 4.75 million participants came to 61,100 meetings in the German capital. The prestigious statistics collected by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) have placed the German capital among the top 5 destinations for the past ten years.

Berlin is increasingly establishing itself as a centre for science and medical events. In the first six months of 2014, meetings and conventions from the medicine, science and research sector accounted for 10 per cent of all events in the city. In comparison: 7.1 per cent of the meetings held in the same six months in 2013 were within these industries.
