Minister of Tourism in South Africa outlines next decade of opportunities for the MICE industry

Derek Hanekom, Minister of Tourism for South Africa outlined how South Africa, as a world-class business events destination, will respond to the next decade in the face of rising interest in the African continent.
Speaking at ibtm world in Barcelona, Minister Hanekom outlined how South Africa hosted 124 international association conferences in 2014 alone which attracted just under 70 000 industry professionals. Of these 124 conferences, 81% were international rotating events. He also reminded all that the South Africa National Convention Bureau (SANCB) has only been in existence for three years

World Obesity Federation launches global Healthy Venues award

The World Obesity Federation (WOF) has officially launched its pioneering new Healthy Venues Award to the events industry at ibtm world, Barcelona.
The Healthy Venues award forms part of World Obesity’s Action Initiative – a mechanism for stimulating action to help reduce obesity across a wide range of industries, in particular those that are not usually involved with health. World Obesity is using the opportunity of people stepping outside their routine to help them make healthier choices with conference venues providing the means to do so.

ibtm world to remain in Barcelona

It was announced today during the opening conference for ibtm world 2015 that Reed Exhibitions has signed an extension to its partnership with Barcelona and Fira de Barcelona to remain in the city for the foreseeable future.  
ibtm world (formerly EIBTM) has developed significantly since its move to Barcelona in 2004 and today attracts over 15,000 meetings professionals to the city each year with an estimated economic impact of some €60million. The operational logistics to deliver such an event have been fine-tuned over recent years through strong collaboration between key stakeholder organisations which have seen ibtm world maintain its status as the leading event for the industry.

The Barbican aiming for increased international exposure at ibtm world

The Barbican is aiming to continue the expansion of its international appeal next week by promoting special packages and offers at ibtm world 2015.

Technology can make meetings and events more engaging, say event professionals

Seventy per cent of event professionals believe that new technologies, such as sensory technology, will make events and meetings more interactive and engaging, according to research from London & Partners, the official convention bureau for London, and CWT Meetings & Events ahead of IBTM World in Barcelona next week.
