Travellers can look forward to a seamless journey, from the heart of London or Ashford to the centre of Lyon, the French capital of gastronomy in just over four and a half hours, the sunny Provencal lavender fields in under six hours, or the bright lights of Marseille in just over six hours.
Tickets for the new year-round route start at £89 return for Lyon and £99 return for Avignon and Marseille, with up to five services a week, depending on the time of year.
With the new route comes exciting new partnerships for Eurostar’s 2 for 1 offer for entry to temporary exhibitions and permanent collections, simply by showing your Eurostar ticket. The MuCEM in Marseille, a national museum dedicated to Mediterranean cultures, and the Musée des Confluences in Lyon (opening 20th December 2014), a science centre and anthropology museum, are both now part of this offer.
Lyon makes an ideal city break destination, whether it’s to marvel at the Fête des Lumières (one of the biggest festive gatherings in the world), sample the cuisine that France’s gastronomic capital has become famous for, or visit one of the many museums and cultural destinations around the UNESCO World Heritage site.
From Avignon and Marseille, it’s easy to explore the Provencal region and experience the landscapes loved by Cezanne and Van Gogh, or explore the culture, art, and many museums and galleries of Marseille, European Capital of Culture, 2013. Eurostar’s partnership with Avis offers customers 10% off car hire, providing freedom to explore the region even further.
Nick Mercer, Commercial Director, Eurostar, says; “Brits have a long standing love affair with the south of France, and our new service brings the gastronomy, culture and art from the region closer to the UK. Eurostar provides an effortless and seamless journey all year round whether it’s for a gastronomic weekend in Lyon, or to soak up Marseille’s sunshine.”
Passengers travelling from France back to the UK can board their train without the need to arrive 30 minutes before departure, because check-in, security and immigration checks will take place at Lille Europe, where customers leave the train before continuing the journey to Ashford and London. Lille Europe has recently re-opened following extension and refurbishment in preparation for welcoming passengers from Lyon and the South of France.
