Oman’s wide range of high quality facilities is constantly expanding

The Sultanate of Oman is a rapidly emerging destination for the corporate events and convention market. It offers an enormous wealth of natural attractions, fascinating culture, stunning landscapes and warm welcoming people. The country remains firmly rooted in its 6,000 years of tradition and culture and affords the chance to experience the true Arabian way of life and to enjoy the natural beauty of a country that only recently began to attract tourism. Due to its rich cultural and archaeological heritage it is dotted with more than 500 forts, castles, watchtowers, four UNESCO heritage sites and ancient sites of rock paintings.

New event facilities
There are over 8,000 beds in a wide range of award-winning 5-, 4- and 3-star hotels as well as a choice of high quality restaurants, beautiful beaches, spas and pools, As many as 1,400 new rooms are being added by hotels in 2011. Oman is the perfect destination for conference and incentive travel. A new state-of-the-art 6,000-seat convention and conference facility opens at the end of 2013 with 30,000sqm of convention space. First-class air, road and telecommunications networks ensure that any trip to Oman runs smoothly.
October will see the opening of the highly anticipated Royal Opera House Muscat. Director General of Tourism, Al Mamari, says that the stunning marble structure “will become an iconic building for Oman and a world-class venue for performing arts”.
Meanwhile construction on Oman’s Convention and Exhibition Centre is on track for opening in late 2013. The Centre includes a 3,000-seat plenary hall, exhibition space of 25,000sqm and a total of 1,000 rooms in four hotels.
The Director General adds “the Centre will give Oman the horsepower to bid for regional and international events as never before, and induce more tourists to Oman through pre and post event tours. This is also a good example of a coordinated strategy of providing infrastructure that takes advantage of Oman Air’s growing network of non-stop services to western and eastern hemispheres”.

Contrasting landscapes in a single country
The second largest country in the region, Oman’s greatest attraction is its diverse landscape, from majestic fjords in the far north in Musandam, to virgin sandy beaches along 3,165km of Indian Ocean coastline. There are expanses of magnificent desert and rugged mountains and yet, in the south, you find lush greenery.

Range of activities
The range of activities available is equally as varied from sailing and diving at sea to canoeing in the fjords, from bird watching to rock climbing, caving, abseiling and golf. Groups can go on boat trips to see dolphins and to experience close encounters with nesting turtles. Then there are memorable times spent browsing in the souks for frankincense or enjoying an overnight stay in a Desert Camp. These all make an event in Oman unique.
