Young Driver event revs up at Stoneleigh Park

For parents of teens keen to get motoring, a new event to be held at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire is set to get a big thumbs up from both generations.
The Young Driver event, to be held on Saturday 20th October, offers those aged 11-17 the chance to drive a car in a safe but realistic environment. Research shows that early driver training can reduce accidents in newly qualified drivers by as much as 45 per cent.

Stoneleigh Park is set in 800 acres of picturesque countryside, meaning there is ample space for drivers to try every kind of manoeuvre. At a Young Driver session, dual controlled cars are used, and tuition is provided by highly qualified CRB-checked driving instructors.

With a mixture of beginners’ zones and a full road system with traffic signs, junctions and parking areas, youngsters are encouraged to consider responsible driving. A personalised Drive Diary can chart how they do and when the young person is ready to take to the roads at 17, their driving instructor will instantly be able to see their previous experience.

Motoring commentator Quentin Willson supports Young Driver, saying: “I took my son to Young Driver and I have never seen him concentrate so hard. Young Driver is a road safety revolution in the making.”

Ian Pegler, chief executive for Stoneleigh Park, added: “With 1 in 5 young people crashing within 6 months of passing their tests, anything that reduces accidents among this group is a good thing. 55,000 lessons have now been delivered by Young Driver across the UK which will make a huge difference when it is time for these youngsters to take to the roads for real. We have ample space here at Stoneleigh Park, with plenty of room for different zones and driving challenges, and so it’s ideal for an activity such as this. We even have parking for 30,000 cars and so there are lots of places to try out a reverse parking manoeuvre!”

Young Driver can also cater for birthday parties, and driving tuition is available for disabled youngsters.
