San Pedro Sula prepares to host Central America Travel Market

From 4 to 6 October 2012, San Pedro Sula in Honduras will host the most important tourism event in Central America, the IX edition of CATM, the Central America Travel Market.

More than 120 tour operators from 15 countries around the world, representatives from around 40 international media, and 200 Central American tourism businesses are expected to gather at the event.

CATM provides an ideal platform to build up business relationships between Central American tourism suppliers and wholesalers from the main international markets.

Previous editions took place in Guatemala (2004), Panama (2005), Honduras (2006), Costa Rica (2007), Nicaragua (2008), El Salvador (2009), Guatemala (2010) and Panama (2011).

San Pedro Sula has been chosen as the host city because of its modern conference and exhibition facilities and number of flight connexions to all the main airports in the continent, as well as its proximity to some of Honduras' main tourist attractions, including its beaches and Mayan archaeological sites.

Honduras expects to better the results of last year's CATM in Panama, where more than 2,500 business meetings between Central American exhibitors and international buyers took place.

Central America received around 11 million international visitors in 2011, a figure which is expected to rise to around 12.5 million visitors this year.
