Qatar will use all three of the venue’s event floors, taking advantage of the ornate features and panoramic riverside views of London. Using themes including women in sport, the use of technology and innovation in enhancing athletic performance and the successful 2022 World Cup bid, the team will convert the reception area, tiered lecture theatre and all meeting rooms throughout the 16 day period. All themes and aspects of the transformation will promote the country’s aspirations to achieve a knowledge based economy over the next 10 years.
The venue’s flagship Riverside Room will also be a focal point for Qatar as the country will use this space for its celebrations.
H.E. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, General Secretary of the Qatar Olympic Committee, says: “The Qatar Olympic Committee is delighted that Bayt Qatar [meaning House of Qatar] at London 2012 will be hosted by the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology. The 2012 Games will mark a significant moment in our journey in the Olympic Movement, and so it was even more important that the venue for Bayt Qatar delivers on the various needs of our stakeholders.”
“This is an important time for all London venues and we’re really excited to be involved in this process,” says Sean Spencer, Venues and Facilities Manger, IET Venues.
“It is a great opportunity for us to showcase the extensive capabilities of the venue and the speed at which this transformation will take place will be a real testament to the team.”
