Warsaw cityscape
Thanks to the efforts of the EXPO XXI Warszawa, supported by the Warsaw Convention Bureau, Warsaw is shortlisted or the organization of Regional Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) in 2019. Presentation of selected destinations will take place on the 3rd of September 2016 at this year's international congress of ISBT in Dubai.

Efforts to organize this prestigious congress were initiated by the EXPO XXI Warsaw two years ago. Anna Górska, Business Development Director at EXPO XXI, contacted the Polish representative of ISBT, professor Magdalena Łętowska MD, PhD, Deputy Director for Transfusion Medicine, Institute of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in Warsaw.

Negotiations have been lasting over a year and a half. During that time, Professor Łętowska, which has been actively promoting Poland and Polish world of science, received the honorary title of thePolish CongressAmbassador. The professor who will lead the final presentation inDubai with the support of EXPO XXI Warsaw and the Warsaw Convention Bureau, truly believes in the success of the Polish bid. In her opinion Warsaw is a safe destination and still financially attractive compared with other European cities. Warsaw's position is additionally reinforced by the fact that Congress has never been held in Eastern Europe.

The process of obtaining ISBT congress is a model example of how gaining an international congress should look today. It is no longer enough to have a great congress center and many flight connections to a given destination. The essential factor is having a strong local ambassador and a support of Convention Bureau. The help of the industry peers, in particular ICCA members is also very well seen, what also happened in this case-commented the bidding process Anna Górska.

ISBT Regional congresses are held twice a year, one in Europe and one in Asia, each time in a different city in the world. The European Congress gathers from 2,500 to 3,000 participants and lasts 5 full days. Last year, the event was held at ExCel London and next year will be hosted by Copenhagen.
