Estonia chalks up key conference wins

Two of Estonia's most popular conference cities, Tallinn and Pärnu, are celebrating successes after recently scoring the rights to host new international events within the coming year.
From October 6th-8th, people in the seaside resort city of Pärnu will be waking up to fine aromas as roughly 100 coffee masters from around the continent attend Roaster Camp 2016, the inaugural event of the newly-established Roaster Guild of Europe.

Just after that gathering ends, all that fresh roast will be put to good use in the related Barista Guild of Europe's Barista Camp 2016. Taking place October 10th-13th, it is expected to involve about 300 participants.

Both events will take place at the new, four-star Estonia Resort Hotel & Spa and are being sponsored by the city. Pärnu and the resort hotel beat out 44 other candidates including Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Vilnius to secure the hosting rights in May.

Meanwhile, Tallinn University has claimed its own victory, winning a bid to host the EUA-CDE Annual Meeting 2017, billed as the “largest and most comprehensive event dedicated to European doctoral education.” The European University Association – Council for Doctoral Education's gathering will take place June 15th-16th next year, with around 250 delegates expected to attend. Dr. Thomas Ekman Jørgensen, the EUA's Head of Council for Doctoral Education and Deputy Director Institutional Development, praised the quality of Tallinn University's application and said that holding the event in Tallinn could open new doors.

“It gives EUA-CDE the opportunity to go to a region where we have not had events before and to a country which has a very dynamic and interesting research system,” he said.

Formed in 2001, the EUA comprises 850 member universities in 47 countries.
