Unique events programme attracts thousands to Sheffield

Steel Hall
National medical conferences, international business summits and performances by global music stars made up a unique programme of events which has attracted thousands of visitors to Sheffield.
Since the start of 2016, SIV Events has hosted approximately 300 events across its portfolio of venues.

SIV Events delivers sporting, business and entertainment events at facilities including Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, iceSheffield, Sheffield City Hall and Sheffield Arena.

Among the events to have taken place in Sheffield is the British Paediatric Neurology Association’s Annual Conference and Exhibition – held at Sheffield City Hall. The conference saw around 300 delegates from across the UK meet in Sheffield to discuss medical advances in their field.

The inaugural UK-China Regional Leaders Exchange at Sheffield City Hall saw delegates from all over China visit Sheffield for an event designed to strengthen partnerships between China and the UK, with the aim of encouraging collaboration on new technologies to generate jobs and wealth through increased exports and investment.

The City Hall was also the venue for BBC Songs of Praise, as well as a show-stopping gig by the Last Shadow Puppets – Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner’s second band – while both Little Mix and Ellie Goulding performed to sell-out crowds at Sheffield Arena.

SIV’s sporting venues, including EIS Sheffield and Ponds Forge, took centre stage for the Special Olympics South Yorkshire Partnership launch, BUCS Big Wednesday and Sheffield Varsity events.

It wasn’t just sport taking place at EIS Sheffield, however, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn visiting for the local election counts which were held at the venue earlier this year.

Dom Stokes, general manager of SIV Events, the events arm of SIV, said: “It’s been a fantastic start to the year and one of our busiest on record with many event bookers choosing Sheffield. The sheer amount and variety of events which we host demonstrates the flexibility and versatility of our venues.

“From national sporting championships to large conferences or exhibitions to intimate gigs, our enthusiastic and professional team has the expertise to deliver first-class events.

“Our 2016 events programme has already attracted thousands of people to the city and there’s a huge amount still to come.

“We’ve had the 2016 British Diving Championships at Ponds Forge, with the likes of Tom Daley performing, iceSheffield will be staging two Champions Hockey League warm-up games in August and Lionel Richie is just one of the many huge names in concert at the Sheffield Arena.”
