The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) has selected Leicester as the host city for its next Hot Topic conference entitled ‘Creating a Bookable Destination’ on 24 May 2016. This conference is one of the highest profile events in the tourism industry calendar and is expected to attract 120 TMI members who promote and develop destinations across the UK, Europe and worldwide.
Leicester Shire Promotions has worked with TMI conference organisers to attract this conference to Leicester. The event will take place at Curve with a pre-conference welcome taking place at Hotel Maiyango the evening before. There will also be opportunity for TMI members - including destination management organisations, local government, national tourist organisations, visitor attractions, consultancies and the higher education sector - to discover more about the fascinating 2,000 year history of Leicester ahead of the conference.
Robin Barker, President of TMI commented: “We're delighted that TMI is coming back to Leicester, one of only an elite group of destinations to be hosting a TMI event on more than one occasion. Great things have been happening in the city and we're always keen to hear about these and ideas that we can share amongst members across the country. The combination of location, venue, accommodation, commitment to service and added value mean that I'm convinced that we'll have an outstanding event."
Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions, added: “The TMI has a great reputation as a strong influencer across the tourism industry and as the tourism body for the city and county, we’re particularly proud that we’ve been able to work with them to bring this conference to Leicester. We will continue to work with Curve, Maiyango and other partners to support the conference and ensure that delegates get the best experience of the conference and of the city during their stay.”
Aatin Anadkat, Managing Director of Maiyango said: "We are really pleased that the TMI has chosen Hotel Maiyango for one of their events. There are so many great things to shout about in our city at the moment and all credit to Leicester Shire Promotions for getting the TMI to return. We are looking forward to delivering something really special and showcasing Leicester."
David Ross, Events Manager at Curve added: "Curve are delighted to have worked closely with Leicester Shire Promotions to construct the winning bid to host this years' TMI Conference. Hosting over 120 tourism professionals is a major boost for Leicester and will put our city on the map as a destination for tourism and conferences.
"We believe that the stunning, contemporary architecture of Curve, combined with our flexible spaces and technical expertise, were some of the major attractions for the TMI, and supports the city’s ambition to attract PCOs and agencies looking for larger meetings and conference venues outside the capital."
