The theme for the evening was ‘Tradition Retold’, with the Historic Royal Palaces team showcasing the traditional setting of the Tower of London with contemporary dressing, entertainment and catering.
On arrival guests were able to enjoy a private viewing of the Crown Jewels before a drinks reception in the atmospheric White Tower, the north side of which featured projection mapping created by White Light to immerse guests in the Tradition Retold theme and bring the White Tower to life in a totally new dimension.
Continuing the theme inside the Tower, which was decorated with only white flowers by Simon Lycett, Velvet Living provided contemporary furniture that offset the traditional setting, while roaming jazz trio Two Men and a Box played a contemporary repertoire.
The J-Tones, a retro a capella barbershop quartet, welcomed guests into the New Armouries, where the flowers changed from white to a burst of colourful, pop art themed displays. Guests were seated on ghost chairs provided by Velvet Living and enjoyed a sumptuous menu from By Word of Mouth, which included chalk steam smoked trout with beetroot sour cream to start; a main of sous vide loin, braised haunch and crisp bon bon of venison with Cumberland gel, savoy cabbage and chestnut foam; followed by ‘An Apple a Day’ dessert plate with apple streusel tart with cider jus and vanilla ice cream, caramelised apple bread pudding, aerated apple sorbet and iced bramley apply soufflé.
During dinner, guests were treated to a mixture of traditional and contemporary entertainment with performances from Lindsay Live, a DJ and percussion artist, and an operatic rock performance from Barcelona.
Sam Glenister-Batey, Commercial Events Manager at the Tower of London, said: “We were thrilled to welcome so many guests to the Historic Royal Palaces showcase event at the Tower of London. The idea behind the evening’s Tradition Retold theme was to highlight how the historic setting of the Tower of London can be combined with any contemporary theme to create a truly unforgettable event. Tradition with a twist is a key motto of the Historic Royal Palaces team and we hope the showcase event was a good indicator of this.”
Milan Thakrar, Business Development Manager, Functions and Events, Historic Royal Palaces added: “The showcase event was a fantastic success. It was the perfect way for us to demonstrate how important events are to the future of the palaces and how clients can play their part by hosting their events in one of our spectacular palaces.”
