Guinness Storehouse celebrates another record breaking year

The GUINNESS STOREHOUSE® celebrates a record number of visitors for 2015 as 1,498,124 guests passed through its doors over the last 12 months, breaking the previously held record of 1,267,807 in 2014. This represents an 18% increase on the 2014 visitor numbers and sees the Home of Guinness retaining its position as Ireland’s number 1 international visitor attraction.

Mirroring current trends in Irish tourism, visitors from the UK and the US made up half of all visitors to the Guinness Storehouse throughout 2015, followed by visitors from mainland Europe and Ireland.

Nearly 1 in 3 visitors (27%) to the Guinness Storehouse in 2015 were from the UK, (a 98% growth in the past year); followed by United States of America (22%), Ireland (7%), France (6%) and Germany (6%). China (up 38% year on year) and the Netherlands (up 34% year on year) represented the other biggest growth markets compared to 2014.

Celebrating the record breaking visitor numbers, Paul Carty, Managing Director of Guinness Storehouse commented, “2015 was an incredibly successful year for us at the Guinness Storehouse. We celebrated 15 years of welcoming visitors to the Home of Guinness just last month and in September were named ‘Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction’ at the World Travel Awards, winning more votes than the likes of the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum. Today is a very proud day for the Guinness Storehouse team and for tourism in Ireland as we celebrate the 1.4 million visitors that walked through our doors in 2015. Over the coming year we will be announcing new innovations and developments that will further enhance our offering and we look forward to welcoming many more visitors to the Home of Guinness in 2016.”

Welcoming the news, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Congratulations to the Guinness Storehouse on a record-breaking 2015. Since its opening, the Guinness Storehouse has become a truly iconic and ‘must visit’ attraction for visitors to Dublin. “2015 is set to be the best year ever for Irish tourism. And I am delighted to report that growth has been recorded from all our markets around the world – with the latest figures showing an increase of +12% in British visitor numbers.

"We have also seen record numbers arriving in Ireland from North America, Mainland Europe and Australia and developing markets. Throughout the year, Tourism Ireland undertook a packed programme of promotions, to bring Dublin and Ireland to the attention of travellers everywhere. We continued to leverage our strength in digital and social media; Tourism Ireland is now the third most popular tourism board in the world on Facebook (about 3.33 million fans), number two on Twitter and number two on YouTube. And Tourism Ireland’s international website, Ireland.com, attracted a record 16.5 million visitors in 2015.

“We look forward to working closely with the team in the Guinness Storehouse again in 2016 to welcome many more overseas visitors, coming to experience all that it, and this great city of Dublin, have to offer.”
