The award-winning sporting event "Navarino Challenge" returns to Messinia and Costa Navarino this September 

“Navarino Challenge” one of the main sporting events in Greece since it started two years ago, is set to be held once again at Costa Navarino from 11 to 13 September 2015.
Sports fans of all ages will enjoy a weekend full of activities from running and cycling, to Tae Kwon Do, Pilates and Tae Bo, with new additions for 2015 of swimming and climbing, all set against the ideal mild climate of the Messinian region. Τhe three-day event aims once again to raise awareness of the fight against childhood obesity through the Messinian diet and physical exercise.

The Greek-American legendary ultra-marathon runner Dean Karnazes and ambassador of “Navarino Challenge” will be back for the third consecutive year. "Among hundreds of running events around the world, the Navarino Challenge has developed in recent years to my favorite event," says Dean Karnazes and continues: "My fondest memories of last year are the spontaneous dances Greek spectators and athletes at the finish."

He will be joined by the Olympic medallist and twice World Champion swimmer Spyros Gianniotis, the twice silver Olympic medallist in taekwondo, Alexandros Nikolaidis, the top Pilates instructor, Mandy Persaki and her team as well as another Alexandros Nikolaidis, the kick boxing champion.

In addition, for the first time this year, the event will feature climbing activities, with courses offered to guests staying at The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, by the certified climbing instructor, George Malamas. Concluding a line-up of sporting legends and experts, the Challenge will honour the leading Greek Olympic and World Champion in the 400 meters hurdles, Periklis Iakovakis, for his overall contribution to sports.

On Saturday September 12th, participants at “Navarino Challenge” will have the chance to swim in the 1 mile swimming route (1.6km) which is specially designed by the federal coach of swimming Nikos Gemelos at the Bay of Navarino near the picturesque port of Pylos. Respectively, younger participants will have the opportunity to swim a half-mile distance route (0.8km).

This year’s running routes, on Sunday September 13th, include a Half Marathon (21.1km), 10km and 5km routes (for running and dynamic walking) and 1km route for children. All routes start and finish the races at Navarino Dunes, Costa Navarino with runners following the scenic coastal road towards the ancient town of Pylos, while athletes of all distances will enjoy the spectacular backdrop of Voidokilia beach, known as one of the best beaches in the world, before heading to the finish point. For guests joining the rich program of “Navarino Challenge” events, The Westin Resort Costa Navarino offers a special rate from €199 for a double room per night.
