Leeds’ biggest familiarisation trip returns to the city from 8 – 10 October 2015

Leeds Hotels and Venues Association (LHVA) has announced that Leeds Big Sleepover, the city’s largest familiarisation trip, will take place this year from 8 – 10 October 2015.
First delivered in 2013, when the event was attended by over 150 key corporates, associations, agents, travel trade and event organisers staying at over 30 hotels across Leeds, making it the city’s largest ever event of its kind, this year LHVA is working in partnership with the newly relaunched ConferenceLeeds and the Leeds BID to deliver the biennial event.

LHVA is working closely with ConferenceLeeds on this event. Following a re-launch earlier this year, ConferenceLeeds is promoting a new Conferencing City proposition, working collaboratively with LHVA to reaffirm Leeds’ position in the UK and international conference industry. This comes shortly after it was announced that Leeds remains the 5th most popular destination for conferences in the UK, according to the British Meetings and Events Survey.

Jennifer Young, Associate Director of Visitor Economy at Leeds City Council, commented: “This is a really exciting time for us and we are thrilled to be working with LHVA on Leeds Big Sleepover. Working in partnership with an Association like LHVA is a unique experience and we hope to give delegates the chance to see how the multi-venue approach we take allows us to shape bespoke conferences and events to suit and enrich the delegate experience.”

Conference Leeds and LHVA are working closely with Leeds BID, a limited company by guarantee that was created following a successful statutory vote by the Leeds BID’s business community. Leeds BID is working to raise the profile of the city from both a corporate and consumer perspective and will be supporting LHVA and Conference Leeds on a number of hosted buyer programmes including Leeds Big Sleepover.

This year Leeds Big Sleepover focuses on the city’s arts and culture offering and the three day programme is set to include attendance at the launch reception of British Art Show 8 at Leeds Art Gallery, the first time the show has been hosted in Leeds for nearly 25 years. The programme will also include a gala dinner at Royal Armouries International, guided tours of Light Night Leeds a showcase of Leeds’ hotels and venues at The Tetley and behind the scenes tours at a number of cultural and sporting venues.

Gordon Jackson, Chairman of LHVA and General Manager of Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa said: ‘Following the tremendous success of the Leeds Big Sleepover in 2013, I am delighted to see it return in 2015. The city left such a lasting impression on our guests last time around that I can’t wait to welcome the new visitors to Leeds. We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Conference Leeds for the first time, as well as with the Leeds BID.’
