Delegates were greeted with a full ‘tech fit out’, ensuring they had the relevant smartphone apps installed to make the most of the day, before the opening keynote from neuroscientist Dr Beau Lotto. Dr Lotto drew on his neuroscience research to underline the importance of ‘real-world’ experiences, such as live events, as a way of adding meaning to the messages we receive. He went on to suggest that technology should add to the real-world experience, rather than distract from it.
New for 2015 were breakout seminars, splitting the audience into smaller groups to hear from event technology experts. These sessions experimented with a number of different event formats, such as body voting and informal seating, to demonstrate not only technology, but alternative techniques that could be applied at events in the future.
A wide variety of technology was on display in the exhibition area of the event, including 3D body scanning courtesy of Europac3D. Delegates were able to be scanned in 12 seconds, producing a 3D digital image of themselves and bringing attendees a step closer to the future of virtual conferences. Other technologies included holographic projection from Musion, projection mapping from White Light and audience interaction tools from sli.do and Glisser, amongst many others.
