Middle Temple celebrates 800 years of Magna Carta & showcases Wolf Hall Party package

Last week, central London venue Middle Temple hosted a celebratory event to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta and showcase its new Wolf Hall party package. 80 guests attended the event with invitees including event agencies, corporate event professionals and local businesses. Representatives from Tate & Lyle Sugars, Eventful, Metro Broadcast, Wedgewood DMC and London & Partners were amongst the attendees.

Designed to be a fun, engaging and interactive event with an intriguing historical thread; Middle Temple partnered with Viva Live Music to produce bygone theatrics and entertainment. Guests were welcomed to Middle Temple Hall by a court jester while Tudor renaissance music, performed live with instruments of the era, played in the background.  

Ampersand Events catered the event providing a selection of contemporary canapés influenced by the flavours and ingredients popular in the Tudor era. Guests tucked into wild boar crown pie, cured trout with watercress puree, Runnymede soft boiled quail eggs with asparagus soldiers, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese and leek tartlets with crispy pancetta and sweet mead meadow baba.  

A courtier gathered guests to instruct them in the rules of court as not to offend the King who would join the party. Shortly after King VIII arrived with his new wife Anne Boleyn to great cheer and selected guests at random for a food tasting of his recent hunt. Wenches circulated historical canapés extending the tasting to guests in the audience. The King and members of court performed Green Sleeves, after which the jester took to the stage to perform tricks while waxing lyrical. Guests were then given a quick precise of Magna Carta and its establishment of constitutional law, before leaving the venue for a tour of nearby Temple Church.   

Returning to Middle Temple guests were selected by the King to try his new cocktail: The City Garden a delicious mix of gin, cider and lime garnished with sage, thyme and mint leaf.  All guests received a cocktail, toasted and took selfies with the King before departing.
