NEEC goes virtual

Since 1903 when it was first hosted in Manchester, the North of England Education Conference (NEEC) has been run as a traditional face-to-face conference attended by hundreds of people annually.
In 2015 it returns to Manchester but this time is being hosted online, thanks to digital communications services being pioneered by events company the Live Group.
Dubbed Virtual NEEC, or VNEEC, the event can reach a much larger audience, all watching and participating via an interactive website.

“VNEEC has got such obvious benefits for our audience: busy professionals who often find it hard to get the time to travel for miles to attend a live event,” commented John Edwards from VNEEC. “Joining the webcast will be free of charge. Each individual will be able to watch the presentations at their convenience as professionally edited versions.”

The content will be provided in bite-size portions too and refreshed weekly. The talks, panel discussions and keynote speeches will be available on demand to fit in with busy schedules. The aim is for a highly participatory event experience with a forum in which everyone gets the chance to contribute.

Live Group Chief Executive Toby Lewis added, “The Live Group has been digitising the NEEC for the past 5 years and this marks a great milestone. We hope that next year's NEEC hosted in Harrogate will be the perfect mix of digital and face to face allowing for even more time in the agenda for networking and discussion. We are constantly striving to produce events where the delegate can choose how, where and when they wish to receive the content provided."

This paradigm shift in the style of such a longstanding educational event reflects the changes in the way content is now communicated and the flexibility audiences require for when, where and how they access information and how they join debates on issues of importance to them,” continued John Edwards. “The Live Group is creating a permanent and entirely flexible content hub, rather than just a one-day experience. And it comes at a fraction of the cost of a traditional event.”
