The EATFAIR initiative is a retail range of countertop baked goods including muffins and flapjacks. Run by Compass Group UK & Ireland and endorsed by the Fairtrade Foundation, the initiative which launched in 2013’s Fairtrade Fortnight, has already raised more than £75,000.
Every time an EATFAIR product is purchased, 5p is donated to EATFAIR projects supporting coffee farmers and growers in developing countries to help achieve Fairtrade accreditation and a fair price for their produce. Expert support is also provided by field specialists who work alongside farmers to help implement best agricultural practices.
This year, EATFAIR products will be stocked nationwide in 10 of Levy Restaurants UK’s conference and exhibition venues, arenas, racecourses, museums and heritage sites. From Ricoh Arena to The KIA Oval and Edinburgh Zoo, the concept will reach a range of customers from sports fans and museum-goers, to guests attending live performances and delegates.
Heidi Notter, Marketing Executive at Compass Group UK & Ireland, commented: “As an organisation, we go one step further to support Fairtrade coffee farmers and their families. So far, EATFAIR has been very successful and has contributed to supporting coffee farmers in developing countries through schemes such as Send A Cow, Gender Action Learning System (GALS) and sustainable farming training to name a few.
“The EATFAIR team visit the societies of the Gumutindo Co-Operative in Uganda annually and, by working together with Levy Restaurants UK, we can make even more of an impact, helping farmers and their families to make positive changes. We are constantly looking at how to develop and evolve our EATFAIR initiative and this is a great opportunity for Levy Restaurants UK to launch EATFAIR within a number of venues.”
Colin Bailey, Managing Director of Levy Restaurants UK comments: “This is a fantastic initiative and we are delighted to be on board with the programme. We are aware that our customers across both the business and leisure markets are passionate about where their food and drink comes from and, making sure that ingredients are sourced responsibly. As a business, we constantly aim to better our offering and together we can make a real difference to the farmers.”
