VisitYork4Meetings’ Meet the Buyer dinner - a runaway success at the Science Museum

Visit York’s Business tourism arm VisitYork4Meetings hosted an exclusive ‘Meet the Buyer’ dinner at London’s prestigious Science Museum last night (Tuesday 17 February).  The event was attended by 24 pre-qualified Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Events (MICE) buyers from London and the South of England, including representatives from corporates such as KPMG and associations and institutions such as The Royal College of Surgeons of England, The Institution of International Language Centres, and The Institution of Environmental Services.

Fourteen of York’s conference venues including the National Railway Museum, The Grand Hotel & Spa, Novotel York, Royal York Hotel, Jorvik Group and Park Inn by Radisson met with selected organisers from the MICE industries.  Dinner was held in the Science Museum’s iconic ‘Making the Modern World’ gallery, which houses Stephenson's original Rocket locomotive.  Supported by East Coast, the Science Museum (sister to the National Railway Museum) and York venue partners, the exclusive dinner was ‘two hours from London’ themed to encourage these key buyers to visit York to experience it for themselves.

The evening began with networking, a keynote speech from Kate McMullen, Head of Visit York, highlighting the credentials of the city as a business destination, followed by a tour of the Museum, and a Yorkshire-themed dinner, catered by Payne and Gunter with White Light providing AV, lighting and technical production.

Kate McMullen, Head of Visit York said: "Our aim is to provide a unique opportunity to showcase York to these senior London buyers.  We’re confident this event will generate increased interest in the city for business events and boost awareness of our proximity in terms of traveling times to the capital."

Hollie Coffey, Events Manager for the International Association of Language Centres said: “We're based in Canterbury and I'm currently organising an event in York and Leeds, so the opportunity to meet so many of York's venues in London is a truly helpful experience for us. The Meet the Buyer dinner has been a great opportunity to learn more about the city and explore its many options, and we look forward to working closely with the team at VisitYork4Meetings going forwards.”

The Meet the Buyer event builds on the success of ‘York Minster to Westminster’ events held in 2013 and 14, which led to the Liberal Democrats Spring Conference taking place in York in March 2014.

VisitYork4Meetings is exhibiting at CONFEX with partners Royal York Hotel, Grand Hotel & Spa, National Railway Museum, Park Inn by Radisson, York Racecourse and East Coast.
