The Pan Am Games 2015 (July 10-26th) and Parapan Am Games 2015 (August 7-15th) are the second largest multi-sport event following the Summer Olympics and are held every four years.
7,600 top athletes from the Americas and Caribbean are invited to Toronto to compete in summer sports ranging from Fencing, Sailing, Tennis and Kayak events. The events will take place in more than 30 venues across 16 municipalities in southern Ontario; with an infrastructure budget of $674 million, 10 world-class facilities are being built especially for the games and 15 are being upgraded.
In spring 2015, a new rail service will connect Toronto Pearson International Airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto, with each one-way trip taking approximately 25 minutes. The Union Pearson Express will depart from both Toronto Pearson and Union Station every 15 minutes during airport hours, seven days a week. The service will combine the convenience and reliability of rail travel with graceful design and superior service.
The Delta Toronto at Southcore Financial Centre opened its doors to guests in late 2014. This 4-star luxury hotel features 567 oversized guest rooms including 16 extended-stay suites with full kitchens, technologically advanced meeting and conference facilities as well as a ballroom, terrace and extensive fitness and spa facilities. This 45-storey hotel is part of a mixed-use complex featuring two office towers, retail and restaurants and is connected to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Delta Kingston Waterfront Hotel has been rebranded after the former Radisson property underwent a multi-million dollar transformation. The hotel has become Kingston’s first 4-star property, featuring 126 modern guestrooms, new lobby and public areas, indoor rooftop pool and large conference spaces.
In mid-2016, luxury boutique hotel chain Hyatt Andaz will open in the ByWard Market neighbourhood in Ottawa. The 200-room hotel will be the first Andaz-branded hotel in Canada and will feature a rooftop lounge and outdoor terrace. There are 12 Andaz-branded hotels in the world in cities including London, New York, Shanghai and Tokyo.
Autumn 2016 will see completion of expansion at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, one of Canada’s leading shopping destinations. The $331 million project will add 298,000 square feet of retail space, including six new-to-Canada brands such as global fashion retailer, Nordstrom. A three-level store will complement Yorkdale’s already exceptional mix of world class brands.
On 1st July 2017, the Canadian History Hall will become the centrepiece of the popular Canadian Museum of History (formerly Canadian Museum of Civilization). With its opening day set for the 150th anniversary of Confederation, the new Hall will tell the story of Canada from the end of the last Ice Age to the present day. Ottawa is the place to be for Canada Day in 2017 when Canada will be celebrating its sesquicentennial! Celebrators will wear red and white and take part in the patriotic party on Parliament Hill, enjoying the main stage festivities featuring live music, a wide array of Canadian entertainment, the traditional flyby of Snowbirds overhead and fireworks.
