Event management students create ‘Mods and Venue Rockers’ theme for London City Selection experiential weekend

‘Mods and Venue Rockers’
London City Selection (LCS) has announced the theme of ‘Mods and Venue Rockers’ for its annual agent familiarisation weekend which will take place on March 6th – 7th 2015. In a new London City Selection initiative for 2015, the theme was selected from a number of proposed event concepts designed and presented by students enrolled on the Event Management for Marketing and Communication course at the Ashdown Academy, which runs courses at University of London and Kings College.

LCS committee members had assigned students with the challenge of creating the themed experiential weekend concept in 2014. Having been given a brief, the students were made to work in teams of six to develop their own proposals before presenting their ideas to the board members. Alternative theme ideas included ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘London Past and Present’ and an ‘Around the World’ theme.

The ‘Mods and Rockers’ theme was selected by the LCS events committee and is being developed into a range of activities in keeping with the 1950s theme. The annual event will welcome UK agents and event planners, allowing member venues to showcase their event spaces while participating in fun activities and team challenges throughout the weekend, such as Hula Hoop and a Fashion Hunt Challenge.

LCS Events Chair and Sales and Marketing Manager at Middle Temple Lorraine Butler has recently appointed participating post-graduate student Eleanora Chimienti to the role of intern at Middle Temple to help with planning and management of the fam event. Lorraine comments: “We’re so pleased with the choice of theme and all the LCS team are already getting excited for our 2015 fam. We are grateful to the students who worked hard to come up with the event concepts and it has been a highly successful initiative that we may look to repeat in coming years.

“Our fam weekend last year was so popular that we reached our registration capacity within days of registration opening. It’s always such a successful event and really helps to raise the profile of our stunning City of London venues. We’re really pleased to be supporting local Event Management students in this way; all of the teams presented fantastic ideas and were very professional. I’m also delighted to be welcoming Eleanora on board at Middle Temple to help us with the planning of the Mods and Venue Rockers event.”
