Sydney shines as an intellectual capital

Sydney is the first city to be profiled as an intellectual capital with the launch of a new digital supplement and microsite to international decision makers at the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Congress in Istanbul, Turkey.

Profiling Sydney and New South Wales’ (NSW) key strengths in competitive global industries such as professional services, ICT and health and medical research, this new resource, Intellectual Capitals: Sydney Shines, is a guide to Australia’s strong knowledge economy.  

The publication features some of the country’s business and academic leaders – our bright minds – who share their views on what is special about Australia’s global city. Contributors include:
• Dr Michael Boyer AM, Chief Clinical Officer, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse
• Mr Glenn Wightwick, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Technology, Sydney
• Dr Marlene Kanga, Past National President, Engineers Australia

BESydney works closely with the NSW Government to deliver maximum benefit to clients and the community, aligning the events it secures with sectors identified as state strengths (advanced manufacturing, professional services, digital economy, creative industries, and international education and research). This strategy is yielding results.

“We’ve already secured 18 events for our new International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) – almost all fall into the state’s priority sectors,” said Ms Lewis-Smith.

Knowledge is increasingly being seen as an essential economic driver, and the new digital supplement supports BESydney’s strategy – to continue to attract meetings and conventions that in turn provide opportunities for global talent, innovation, trade and investment.

The Intellectual Capitals microsite, which sits alongside the digital publication, will continue to highlight Sydney’s smarts with ongoing coverage that demonstrates why Sydney is truly an intellectual capital.

“We recognise that many advances in technology, science, and medicine are radically changing the social and economic landscape of the global economy,” says CAT Publications’ Managing Editor, Martin Lewis, who created the digital supplement with BESydney. “Innovation and collaboration are drivers of change but a destination’s wealth in knowledge and human capital is the new magnet for growth and prosperity.”

Intellectual Capitals: Sydney Shines follows the successful launch of BESydney’s new branding, Sydney Shines, to the international business events community at IMEX Frankfurt in May. Sydney Shines provides BESydney with a new platform to share the many facets of Australia’s global city – to explore Sydney’s ingenuity and ability to bring creative concepts to reality, with its bright minds and unique natural environment.

The second edition of SYDNEY SHINES, BESydney’s broadsheet magazine, is a great snapshot of some of the exciting people, places and ideas that make Sydney one of the world’s greatest places to meet.
