Scottish Tourism Alliance October Conference supports National Events Month October

Scottish Tourism Alliance
Senior members of the Scottish Events market showed their support for National Events Month October (#NEMO) yesterday at the Scottish Tourism Alliance October conference. The conference coincided with the launch of industry group, Business Tourism for Scotland; earlier, Fergus Ewing, Tourism Minister for Scotland, spoke about the opportunity for the Scottish events Industry.

National Events Month, part of the annual Britain for Events campaign, advocates the best of British events. The 39.1bn UK events industry is responsible for putting on a year of global events including The Ryder Cup, The Commonwealth Games, Glastonbury and the International Festival For Business to name but a few.

The market, which also supports over 530,000 jobs and 25,000 businesses, will focus on four sectors of the industry, each culminating in a host event that demonstrates the quality and breadth of the industry.

The month kicked off with a focus on the £19.9bn conference industry, which coincides with the Liberal Democrats party conference in Glasgow. The campaign has now turned to the £11bn Exhibitions and Experiential industry that includes the IP EXPO Europe at ExCeL London, where Sir Tim Berners-Lee is one of the keynote speakers.

In week three the focus will move to Outdoor, Cultural, Sporting and Music Events (which combine to create a £5.8bn industry), where the campaign will move to the Association of Independent Festival Organisers Congress in Cardiff. Finally, the NFL’s return visit to London will provide a perfect backdrop to a look the Corporate Hospitality (£1.2bn) and Incentive Travel (£1.2bn) sectors.
