AIM accredited venues lead the way for new Food Information Regulation

AIM accredited venues were preparing for the new Food Information for Consumers Regulation, which will influence the catering industry, by attending a presentation on 25th September at London’s Victory Services Club ahead of the act’s enforcement on 13 December 2014.

Led by Hazel Gowland, food advisor at Allergy Action, the presentation outlined the steps manufacturers and caterers must take to protect consumers with allergies. The new law, being enforced by the Food Information Regulations 2014 (FIR), will ensure consumers are given a clear basis for making informed choices and raise awareness of allergens in food preparation.  

As the UK’s only nationally recognised standard for accredited venues and service providers, AIM is providing members with all the information required to make the necessary changes that will ensure they are in line with the new regulation. Changes will include retaining supplier product information, provide training for staff to give correct information about allergens in food, ensure allergen information is suitably highlighted at all times, reviewing kitchen and service practices, and establishing a best practice of communication for information to be clearly transmitted from front of house to kitchen.  

Nick Milne, Chair of AIM’s Development Group said: “The new law is a big change for the events industry and we want to make the transition as easy to put into action as possible for our venues and suppliers. Through educating them ahead of the new act, we can continue to be at the forefront of our sector and assure event bookers that AIM accredited venues are capable, compliant and competent.”
