Recruitment day ignites Merseyside dreams

A Liverpool-based initiative has received a record number of applicants following a successful recruitment day.
Last week, Hestia Careers, a work-based hospitality programme delivered by hospitality entrepreneur Gemma McGowan and Your Housing Group, enrolled 13 young people into its September intake with more individuals scheduled to embark on the programme next month.

The new recruits aged 16-25, from across Merseyside gathered at The Isla Gladstone, Anfield, to meet with Hestia Careers partners, industry professionals, programme leaders and existing members of the initiative.

The free programme, designed to help local young people embark on a career in the hospitality industry, combines hands-on paid work with support from industry professionals, master-classes and away days. Hestia Careers prides itself not only placing young people into careers best suited to them but also partnering local bars, hotels and restaurants with the best talent the city has to offer.

Director of Hestia Careers, Gemma McGowan, said: “The response to our open day was incredible; it was so inspiring to see such passion and commitment from the young people who attended.

“Five of our new recruits have already completed their first week with an employer and I’m delighted to announce that 80% of last year’s intake has secured full-time careers following their work-based apprenticeship.

“The programme not only provides a spring-board for young people dreaming of becoming the next top chef, head bartender or sales and marketing expert, it also actively reduces unemployment in Merseyside.”
