RM Auctions blast off at Battersea Evolution

RM Auctions blast off at Battersea Evolution
On Monday 8th September RM Auctions hosted its 2014 London Auction at Battersea Evolution where 80 vintage automobiles from companies including Porsche, Bentley, Jaguar and Ferrari were auctioned off to a group of discerning buyers and collectors.

The centre-piece of the event was Lot 101, a CIAM-NASA Hypersonic Flying Laboratory “Kholod” rocket, a rare aeronautical artefact designed to test max-speed for flying objects in the earth’s atmosphere, which went for £38,025, whilst the auction grossed a staggering sale total of £21,811,945, consisting of 80 fine classic cars alongside the rocket.

Auction guests also enjoyed an exclusive Champagne and canapé reception ahead of the bidding, including Butternut and Mozzarella arancini, Sweet potato and ginger fritters with coconut salsa and beetroot-cured salmon lollipops with a Wasabi mayonnaise by award-winning caterers, Smart Hospitality.

Commenting on the partnership, Greg Lawson, CEO of Smart Group said: “This year’s auction was the most ambitious that we have hosted in the history of our continuous relationship with RM Auctions. We are proud to be hosting this event for the eighth year, and it never ceases to amaze. Over the years highlights have included a James Bond Aston Martin, a McLaren F1 car, the helicopter featured in the 1964 film Goldfinger and an iconic 007 Lotus Esprit ‘Submarine’ car; this year has surely topped it with the unprecedented excitement of a well-preserved rocket, which really spiced up the bidding. We thoroughly enjoy working with RM Auctions and events like these really help us showcase both the potential of Battersea Evolution’s space and how it can be used to stage visually striking events on a grand scale.”

Commenting on the success of the event, Max Girard at RM Auctions said: “This is our 8th auction in Battersea Park, and each year the sale never disappoints. We offered some spectacular vehicles and had bidders from 35 countries around the world.”
