Sydney Paulden was a guest at a Swiss birthday party in LondonSCIB, Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau, was founded in 1964. Ths year is, therefore, its 50th birthday – and the SCIB London office celebrated it in London in fine style – with 50 guests and a 60s theme.
From a remarkably wide range of sectors, the guests enjoyed a convivial evening on the roof of the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch High Street, in London’s East End. There was a bar, a large room for mingling and mixing, a barbecue area and an open air terrace – and the party made full use of all those facilities.
There was a good supply of a tasty fruit punch. The canapes were not only tasty, but large enough to pick up and hold in the hand. The barbecue offered a choice of chicken, fish or lamb and the terrace offered tables where the food could be eaten in comfort in the remarkably warm London night air.
And there was lively 60s party music, with an attractive platinum blonde who played the drums whilst singing the old favourites. Her accompanist had a gravelly voice that lent itself to the Louis Armstrong vocals.
Presiding over the fun event was Claudio Zemp, SCIB Manager for UK and Ireland, who took the opportunity to introduce his new colleague, Susanne Suhner. He was assisted, too, by representaatives from Swiss regions, hotel groups and DMCs, each of whom was astonishingly capable of sticking to an instruction to be very brief on the microphone when introducing their facilities. All the presentations were completed in very few minutes – adding rather than interrupting the party.
It was a great way to celebrate the birthday – and for SCIB to show it knows something about holding events!
