Conference Aston the host as myvenues steps out of London

Conference Aston, Birmingham
Conference Aston, Birmingham’s largest independent conference centre, was the host as venue finders, myvenues, hosted their first showcase outside of London.

More than 30 corporate and charity buyers were invited to meet the 22 exhibitors from across the country as Birmingham continues to cement its reputation as the best conference destination away from the capital.

Following a recent £5.4m redevelopment project, Conference Aston’s ability to host the reception, exhibition and evening entertainment in separate parts of the venue gave them the edge over other second city exhibition centres.

Ben Aylward, owner of myvenues said: “This is a new venture for us, but we will be back again next year. Talking to clients, there is a buoyant feeling amongst the region and booking rates are on the up.

“Getting people in front of each other is key for us. There needs to be a much more active approach and a change of ethos. A lot of our buyers already know each other and this whole industry is built on face-to-face relationships.

“We have worked with Conference Aston for a long time, so we were pleased that they were the host for our first event outside of London. The visitors have been impressed by the facilities and have said that they did not realise that universities had facilities to this standard.”

Lucy Talbot, director at Conference Aston, said: “Events like this have been a long time coming for Birmingham and the good turn out shows there is an obvious demand in the city to meet buyers; we’re hopeful this will be the first of many similar events.

“Our refurbishment work has given us the flexibility to host events where a variety of large spaces are needed to ensure it runs smoothly, it would not have been possible to host an exhibition like this in a hotel or any other centre in the city.”
