Emirates Old Trafford short-listed for ‘Five’ awards

Emirates Old Trafford, the world famous home of Lancashire County Cricket Club and leading International Test Match venue, has been shortlisted for five prestigious industry awards.
TheStadiumBusiness Awards, which recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the delivery, operation and management of sports facilities globally, has recognised Emirates Old Trafford in the following four categories: .

Guest Event of the Year Award for the Fisher Scientific ‘Science World 2013’ exhibition.
Project of the Year Award for the renovation of the Pavilion.
Sponsorship, Sales and Marketing Award for LCCC’s Emirates Scoreboard competition that was held through the county’s T20 campaign in 2013.
Sports Event of the Year Award for the successful Third Investec Ashes Test Match between England and Australia in August.

Emirates Old Trafford has also been selected as a finalist in the in the Business Tourism Award for the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2014. In the lead up to exhibiting at IMEX Frankfurt 2014, EOT are delighted to build on their aspiration to be a world class venue for business.

Lancashire County Cricket Club’s CEO Daniel Gidney said: “We are absolutely delighted that Emirates Old Trafford has been recognised by two of the leading award bodies in our sector. 2013 was a momentous year as we held a successful Ashes Test at Emirates Old Trafford for the first time since 2005. Over 150,000 people watched international cricket at our venue last year which also boosted the local economy to the tune of £20 million.”

Daniel adds: “We are up against some leading names in global sport for the Sports Event of the Year Award including the WACA in Australia, Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, Wimbledon for Andy Murray’s famous win and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the USA for the Superbowl. To be mentioned in the same breath as these venues shows how important Emirates Old Trafford is in global sport. Being shortlisted for the awards also recognises our diversity in that we are fast becoming a leading conference and events space not only locally and nationally, but also on the world platform.”

The winners of the VisitEngland Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony at Cheltenham Racecourse on Monday 12 May 2014, while the TheStadiumBusiness Awards will be confirmed at TheStadiumBusiness Summit at RAF Museum (Hendon, London) on the 4th June.
