Cape Town design capital 2014 showcases The Test Kitchen and Cape View Clifton

As ‘World Design Capital 2014’, Cape Town has secured its place firmly on the design world map. Riding on a wave of popularity, the city has changed significantly in the last few years as new boutique hotels, guest houses and restaurants open challenging the old ‘grandes dames’ and rivaling some of the best in the world.

Leading the way in this innovative talent pool are two young creatives; Luke Dale Roberts, Chef and mastermind behind the innovative dining experience at award winning restaurants The Test Kitchen and Pot Luck Club and Jess Latimer who is upping the stakes of Cape Town’s trendy hospitality offering with luxury guest house Cape View Clifton in Bantry Bay.

The Test Kitchen is located at the Old Biscuit Mill in the coolest corner of the city, Woodstock. An emerging hipster inner suburb, Woodstock has long been the heart of the revival of the food scene in South Africa.  No one encapsulates Cape Town's new food movement better than Luke Dale-Roberts. His restaurant has become a firm favourite on foodie tours of the Cape with dishes such as Pork Belly, parsley pressed apples, wild rosemary infused honey, blue cheese cream, crackling. The Test Kitchen scooped the highly coveted One To Watch award at the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2013.

Also located at the Old Biscuit Mill is Luke’s other restaurant 'Pot Luck Club' – with a more casual on the top of a silo in the converted mill with superb views over the city. The Old Biscuit Mill personifies the care and attention to preserving the best of the architecture in this edgy multi-racial suburb, with a flavour of New York’s Greenwich Village and London’s Shoreditch. Each weekend, the Biscuit Mill is home to day and night markets that sell the very best locally designed items and art plus organic produce.

Across the city, Cape View Clifton, is quickly becoming the destination of choice to sleep for those in the know.  Designed by 29 year old owner Jess Latimer is located in one of the most sought after and fashionable areas of the city – Bantry Bay. Tucked into the side of the cliff-face, it comprises seven luxury deluxe and junior suites with 180 degree panoramic sea views from every suite and apartment.  There is a beautifully designed dining area for meals with an honesty bar and a huge deck which extends the width of the building boasting a 15 square meter swimming pool where visitors can take in the property’s unique views from luxurious sun loungers. Cape View Clifton offers simply spectacular views of the Atlantic coastline, Twelve Apostles and the city’s iconic beaches.  It also offers great value for money for its prime location, luxurious interior design, honesty bar and pool. Rates start from ZAR 2,700 (approx £170) per room per night on a B&B basis.
