Around 3,000 professionals and scientists will attend the three day event at the venue, home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, from March 5 to 7. It was last held at ACC Liverpool in 2010.
The Conference and exhibition will provide delegates with the opportunity to find out about the latest scientific research; hear from speakers including John Pickup, Guy Rutter and Stephen Greene, as well as knowledge sharing and networking.
The programme will include an exhibition of more than 60 exhibitors, in excess of 500 abstract research posters and a conference dinner, themed Viva Las Vegas, will be held at the city’s Crowne Plaza hotel.
Delegates and exhibitors are invited to take part in the Conference 5K fun run which will take place outside of ACC Liverpool and along the city’s world-renowned waterfront. Funds raised will support Diabetes UK's Care Events, enabling more families with diabetes to get the help they need and giving them the opportunity to meet others going through similar experiences.
The Diabetes UK Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow, which will take place at Liverpool ONE shopping centre during the Conference, will encourage the public to get free Type 2 diabetes risk assessments and meet expert dieticians. The Roadshow at Paradise Place, Liverpool ONE, will be open from 10am – 6pm on Wednesday March 5 and Thursday March 6.
Kerrin MacPhie, director of sales at ACC Liverpool, said the venue is providing support to Diabetes UK through its Advantage by ACC Liverpool initiative, a programme which provides bespoke venue and destination assistance for conference organisers.
She said: “We are pleased to welcome Diabetes UK to ACC Liverpool for the second time for what will be a fantastic event containing many interesting strands. Through our Advantage programme, we are supporting Diabetes UK in a number of ways, including helping with its public outreach programme; funding for welcome drinks receptions; assisting in organising the fun run and destination marketing support.”
Barbara Young, chief executive at Diabetes UK, said: “Liverpool is a superb setting for the Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2014. It is a great city in terms of hotels, transport links and in ACC Liverpool an exciting conference venue, all of which will add to the experience of our delegates. We have some fantastic speakers lined up and the research being presented is of a very high quality, so we are looking forward to it.
“Team Liverpool has provided us with excellent support - from promoting Diabetes UK city-wide to working with us to deliver our Conference 5K fun run - so that everyone attending the event will be warmly greeted by the host city. Their input will be valuable in raising the profile of Diabetes UK and encouraging the people of Liverpool to get their risk of Type 2 diabetes assessed at our Roadshow. We know there are 6,000 people in Liverpool who have the condition but don’t know yet so we’re very keen to get as many of them along to the Roadshow as possible.”
Emma Bellis, head of Liverpool Convention Bureau, said: “It’s excellent news that Diabetes UK has once again chosen ACC Liverpool for its annual conference.
“Returning conferences are the strongest evidence of what a great host city Liverpool is, and I’m sure that delegates will be pleased to hear that they’re coming back to enjoy the premium facilities and Liverpool’s wider cultural offer. As well as the main event, the roadshow at Liverpool ONE will ensure that the conference really engages with the local population.”
